INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
An annual international observance established by the United Nations, marking the liberation
of Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, to remember the six million Jewish victims and
millions of others persecuted by the Nazis, serving to educate future generations and combat
hatred through ceremonies, candle lighting, and sharing survivor stories

In 2025, Russian-speaking Jewish community of SF Bay Area has initiated the community-wide commemoration in
San Francisco at the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz-Birkenau liberation. Israeli Consulate to the Pacific Northwest, Jewish and interfaith community organizations are presenting partners of the event

Local officials, diplomats and community leaders gathered on Geary Boulevard in San Francisco’s Richmond district Monday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Red Army’s liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest concentration camp of the Holocaust.
